Privacy policy
What this guide collects when you visit, why, and how to opt out. Last updated October 23, 2026.
The short version
The guide counts visits with Google Analytics so it can tell which pages and listings are useful. It doesn't run ads, doesn't sell or share your information, and you don't need an account to use it.
Google Analytics
Pages load Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…) to tell new visits from repeat ones. It records the pages you view, roughly where you are (city or region, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics doesn't store), your device and browser, the site that sent you, and the links to businesses' and venues' websites you click. That last part shows how many visitors the guide sends to each local business. Contact form sends are counted too, but never what you wrote.
Google processes this data under its privacy policy. Detailed visit data is kept for no more than 14 months.
Opting out
You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings, use a content blocker, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. The site works the same either way. The "Night out" widget that other sites can embed doesn't load Google Analytics.
The contact form
When you send a correction or a tip, your message, email address, and (if you give it) your name are emailed to the guide's editor. They're used only to check the listing and reply to you, never added to a mailing list. The server logs whether each message was delivered, but not what it said. To slow down spam, it also keeps a scrambled (hashed) copy of your IP address for about an hour.
Web hosting and fonts
Like every website, the server keeps standard access logs (IP address, page, and browser) for security and troubleshooting. The site is hosted by DreamHost. Its fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when it sends them.
California residents
The guide doesn't sell or share personal information as the California Consumer Privacy Act defines those terms. It isn't directed at children under 13.
